Thinking about the future
Thinking about the future of migration currently makes me uneasy but resolute, because it means confronting a global order in which the freedom of movement—arguably a basic human right—is systematically denied through migration control regimes that function as mechanisms for preserving privilege, reinforcing global inequality, and normalizing exclusion, which in turn makes clear the need for a fundamental conceptual shift in how international movement is understood, from something to be restricted and managed to something to be recognized as an inherent expression of human freedom.
